When you work for another person or company, you often don’t think about things like sales, success, goals, or even your own frame of mind. In most cases, even if you like your job and are proud of what you do, you simply go through the motions, doing what is required by your boss, clocking in and out each day with no change in your schedule. Being an employee is much different than becoming an entrepreneur, and being overzealous is one of the main downfalls of new business owners and those trying to start a business. They want so much, and they try so hard, but there is such a thing as too much.
In order to approach entrepreneurship with the right business mindset and not sell yourself short before you even get started, you need to calm down and focus your energy on what is most important to you. When you were an employee, you had no real responsibilities or accountability beyond showing up every day and completing your daily tasks. The growth and success of the company was up to the corporate bigwigs and the marketing team. You simply did your job, collected your pay, and went home. Now you are in charge of everything. And often, when you first start a business, you might be working for no pay for a while. Read more

On June 2, I participated in an exhilarating and inspirational event, the Sierra Hope Ride. This is the 13th year for the Ride. It is sponsored and hosted by Mitchell’s Harley Davidson Motorcycles in Modesto, California. This is the first year my husband, Bill, and I participated in this charity event. The Ride raises funds for the Muscular Dystrophy Association’s (MDA) fight against neuromuscular diseases. The Sierra Hope Ride is the largest single-dealership event of its type in the country. In 2006, more than $350,000 was raised by the more than 2,000 riders. Read more

I thought I would clear up some misconceptions about marketing in this two-part series: What Marketing Can Do For You and What Marketing Can’t Do For You. We’ll start with the positive.
Over the years, I’ve had dealings with some business owners who have a rather skewed perception of marketing. They think you throw a few ads out there, get a couple of press releases printed and voila! You’re a big success.
Oh, if it only were that easy. (Although if it were, I probably wouldn’t have a job.)

No one has ever logged onto the Internet for the first time and started pocketing dollars in a really short period of time. As with all things in life, there is a learning curve.
SOME PERSONAL HISTORY
Just a few short years ago, I was a working stiff just like you.
One day, I bought and read a book called “Multiple Streams of Income” by bestselling author, Robert Allen. Immediately, I began my journey.
Every night after work and after my wife and children went to sleep, I would get online and explore different ways of using the Internet to make money.
In the two years that followed, I spent over $10,000 racking up credit card debt buying eBooks, membership sites, special reports, opt-in leads, and joining every “guru” recommended business opportunity that flew into my email inbox. Read more

As mothers, finding time for ourselves can be nearly impossible. There are always a million things on our to-do list that we mark as a high priority. At the end of the day, there just isn’t any more time.
The other day I was reading an article written by a man. He isn’t married and has no children. He mentioned in his article that he was very stressed just from working and doing things for his friends. He felt he had no time for himself. No time to unwind and have fun. I thought to myself, “This guy needs to really figure out what he is spending his time on”.
I have a husband to make happy, a house to clean, 3 children to nurture and teach, 2 cars to clean and maintain, a business to grow and that is just to name a few. I’m sure many of you mothers can relate. There are many times when I feel very pressed for time. I asked myself, “How can this man who only has a business and a couple of friends be so stressed and feel he has no time for himself?” Read more

As a new business owner you may wonder how important it is to have a website. When you have multitudes of other tasks on your plate to get your business on its feet, you may think that a website is not that important. However, a study by Interland (Dec. 2003), a web-hosting firm for small and mid-sized businesses, stated that 78 percent of small businesses believe their company benefits from having a website.
In the same study, between 20 and 30 percent of these small businesses said that they rely heavily on their website for sales and that it helps them reduce other marketing costs. Personally, I have found that our website provides the best return on investment, as compared to direct mail, which costs a significant amount of money to implement. Read more
